The Digg team is excited to launch new Digg user profiles later tonight, the first of many cool new features rolling out this year.

And lastly, in addition to Digg Profiles, there are more new features coming later this year:

• Digg Images: A dedicated images section (with thumbnails). Still on track to launch in late October.
• Revamped Comments: No more ajax loads, new clean and lightweight design (similar to the old comment system).
• Digg Alerts: Alerts will give you the ability to create customized email alerts – when a story becomes popular, summaries of popular stories on specific topics, and when your friends recommend stories.
• Story Suggest: Dozens of servers crunch the math to provide you with real-time recommendations (stories and friends) based on what you’ve dugg in the past.

Initial Stage Setup:

In two determinations handed down yesterday, the US Federal Election Commission (FEC) found that political blogs and bloggers are media for the purposes of US Electoral Law.

The first case was a complaint against the well known left wing blog The Daily Kos. Conservative blogger John C.A. Bambenek claimed that the site should comply with campaign finance laws because it charges a fee to place advertising on its website and it provides ?a gift of free advertising and candidate media services? by posting blog entries that support candidates. The FEC determined that the website falls ?squarely? within the media exemption and is therefore not subject to federal regulation under the Act; ipso facto: under US law blogs are formally recognized as media organizations.

It’s official. Americans love blogs. According to a new Synovate/Marketing Daily survey out today, 8 out of 10 Americans know what a blog is?and just about half of us have visited a blog.

• More Women are Bloggers
• When asked about the types of information they get from blogs, sixty five percent of survey respondents said that they get opinions from blogs?39 percent get news and 38 percent get entertainment from blogs that they read. About one third read gossip on blogs. Only 2 percent use blogs to keep up with news about their family members and their friends.
