Open Source Doesn’t Always Mean Free

SourceForge MarketPlace

While Open Source programs/software are usually affiliated with zero cost, SourceForge has recently announced SourceForge Services Marketplace (in beta) for Developers. To me it appears that there is an open call to pay Developers to change/update/upgrade existing projects or perhaps even to develop new projects….

SourceForge Services

In addition, I’ve come across several “free” open source projects in SourceForge that appear free, but then they offer “Premium” services, i.e. a better version for a cost. Like Power Folder (PowerFolder is a Secure, Peer-to-Peer File Transfer Tool. Easily share, backup, synchronize and access files over the Internet or in LAN. Sync home and office PC, share holiday pictures or work together on shared documents.)

So don’t forget to donate for the “free” software you use to keep it free!
