Umm, speaking of Restaurant Reviews

What the hell are Restaurant Row (.com) and Menutopia (.com)? Where did they come from? Obviously Google new about them, since they linked onto their “Reviews for Google Maps”… Quick summary before I head out of the office for the day. Restaurant Row SUUUUUCCCCKSSSSS. It’s a mess. However, Menutopia.com combines the look and feel of SeamlessWeb.com, which I like, with menupages, which has all the menus, with links to SeamlessWeb if they are active for delivery on SeamlessWeb. Hmmm, perhaps Menutopia and SeamlessWeb are related? or just good buddies? Can I say Seamless Web one more time?

Google Map Business Reviews

image While I’m on my apparent Google kick, let’s throw in one more interesting tidbit from Google. Apparently, Google Maps now allows businesses to be reviewed, plus it’s linked to other companies’ reviews, like newyork.citysearch.com, menutopia.com and restaurantrow.com.

I decided to showcase and check out and write a review of my favorite Sushi restuarant, Isohama, for more more info, click on the link.

Oil Industry Controls The President

I’ve said it plenty of times over and over again, but I’ll say it again. The Bush presidency is controlled by the Oil Industry. I mean, someone (in this case President Bush) just can’t take control of an oil company, run it into the ground, then eventually become president and not owe somebody something, and by something, I mean A LOT! How else could a coke sniffing, alcoholic from Connecticut get the appearance that he’s a Born Again Christian from Texas?

Either way, here’s the article that prompted this rant: Oil industry scales back refinery plans, a selection from the story below…

This spring, refiners, hampered by outages, could not keep up with demand and imports were down because of greater fuel demand in Europe and elsewhere. Despite stable ? even sometimes declining ? oil prices, gasoline prices soared to record levels and remain well above $3 a gallon.

Consumer advocates maintain the oil industry likes it that way.

“By creating a situation of extremely tight supply, the oil companies gain control over price at the wholesale level,” said Mark Cooper of the Consumer Federation of America. He argued that a wave of mergers in recent years created a refining industry that “has no interest in creating spare (refining) capacity.”

On the other Hand, No New York City for Google Transit

imageDespite New York City being up and running for Google Ride Finder and despite theimage fact that

Google Maps now has updated Manhattan with Transit Hubs and Information, Google seems to be lacking in the whole get New York City done sooner than later phase. Let’s get New York City up and running for Google Transit! I mean, COME ON! We’re New York City, we’re like a third of everybody that uses Google in the United States. Not everyone knows about Hopstop.com, so, let’s get the ball rolling for all of those tourists out there (make it mobile compatible too for them, it might help).

Google Ride Finder - Finally in NYC, but Lacking

Google Ride Finder (beta), which I’ve been checking to see when they’d finally  add New York City to it, is finally up and imagerunning. Unfortunately, the NYC Taxi and Limousine Service haven’t updated their technology yet, but either way, I live in Manhattan, there’s always a taxi available. What is up and running is Elite Limousine and Super Shuttle. Possibly can detect traffic through the “Update Vehicles Location” button on the bottom?

Convert OPML to HTML

image When working on my web site, I wanted to insert all the blogs I’m reading into my “Links” Page into a Section called “Current Blogs I’m Reading”… So I decided to do a Google Search for “OPML to HTML Converter” and I came up with a lot of junk, thankfully one of the blogs I read is Lifehacker and they fortunately had a blog entry on this, unfortunately the links didn’t work at first, but I gave it another try and bam…. a in browser, Drop OPML Source to convert to HTML page, SWEET!

Thanks whoever wrote the code for that page! Made my life and web site easier!

Live Writer Beta 2 Flickr Trick

First, I only discovered after I downloaded Microsoft Live Writer that it was Beta 2 a week later. Apparently, it doesn’t say anything on the site, but according to the Microsoft Live Writer Blog, it’s the new version. Either way, I’m glad I didn’t have to bother with the old version. Anyway, the purpose of this post, is because I got a Comment! Woo! I love Comments! Figured, it was an interesting tip to share:

“Last week I discovered (by accident) that if you right click on a pic in Flickr and select Copy Link Location (NOT Image Location) you can CTRL-V it straight into Live Writer - AND it correctly copies the ?alt? info as well.

When I typed in an ?alt? tag directly into WLW it was not appearing on my Wordpress blog (not Wordpress.com). Now it does.”

Thank you David for Reading and Commenting!

Amazing Un Official ITunes NY Campaign Ad

imageI certainly know anyone I know in New York would love this ad. It has everything from multiple cultures to several languages to different street-scapes. Good times, the best part is that Apple didn’t even do the video. Check the link at http://www.iphonenewyorkcity.com/.
